From Sidewalk to Catwalk - Jean Paul Gaultier

A few weekends ago I took a cheeky and impromptu trip down to stylish Melbourne for the weekend.

The reason being, to see a special exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV)..
‘The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From Sidewalk to the Catwalk’…  and boy was it worth the trip!

For many years, I have loved and been a big fan of Jean Paul Gaultier and not just for his amazing perfumes.. but also for his absolute “to die for” Haute Couture fashion!

What Jean Paul is best known for, is his cone corset that was made famous by Madonna! Although, let me tell you! Madonna was not even the very first person (or thing) to wear Jean Paul’s cone corset piece, believe it or not, that was his teddy bear named ‘Nana’!!

When Jean Paul was only 7 years old, he used to use his teddybears as little models for his creations, which included wedding gowns!

Now he is world famous for his amazing creations of dresses. Jean Paul was one of the first fashion designers to really make quirky haute couture fashion into works of art and went on to inspire the likes of the very famous Alexander McQueen and John Galliano and many many more no doubt!

Throughout out the whole Melbourne exhibition, every single dress displayed, left you in absolute awe of JPG’s beautiful and amazing attention to detail.

I worked hard to capture as many photo’s at the exhibition as I could, but as amazing as my photos became, they still couldn’t do the dresses real justice! Everything JPG made is in his lifetime is a true work of art! Truly an amazing man of talents and someone to look up to!

Yours in Haute Couture!
