Glitter Drenched Hair

SO, last weekend I attended the fabulous Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras!!!! AND of course, I couldn’t possibly attend this year’s AMAZING parade looking like my normal betty-boo self, SO, I thought to myself… “What’s going to make me just stand out in the crowd???”

And, then it hit me! (and no it wasn’t a mardi-gras float on the run! Hehe).. it was the idea of going crazy to this crazy parade WITH CRAZY GLITTER!

I had seen this done on the catwalks! The ‘drench yourself in glitter’ look - which is like you just washed your hair in glitter water, and it looks awesome and is lots of fun!

So, here is a quick ‘How to…..’ guide to create it too, as creating this style was really easy and enjoyable to do.

This is what you need. It all shouldn't cost you more than $25!!

1.Mirror (to look at your sexy self hehe)
2.Strong hold hairspray
3.Glitter hairspray
4.Hair Gel
5.Hair Paste
6.Chunky glitter
7.Fine glitter
8.Bowel
9.Thick size paint brush, and finally…
10. A Comb

You should note, when choosing the glitter, be careful because if you have lighter coloured hair, some glitter colours can run and dye your hair with the gel. So, I would suggest that you use lighter colours such as  light sliver, gold or clear rainbow…

#1 Get wet and slick!

Soak your hair in the shower, then towel dry and comb it right back for the slick look.

Get a hand scoop of the hair gel and a hand scoop of the hair paste… mix it together in your hands and apply it through your hair.

The reason I used both is that the gel dries fast where paste mix will still have a moist wet feel and your hair will move more freely and wont feel so rock hard or look crusty!

Work the product within the scalp roots to the ends of the hair. Its important you really have a lot of product around the scalp of the head for the glitter to stick.

This will make your hair look wet all night!

#2 Just add Glitter!

With the 2 types of Glitter, chunky and fine, mix them together in the bowel.

I found using chunky glitter has a better effect with the different reflections of shine you can get and it will look amazing!!

Wet the paint brush so it grabs the glitter and start to paint it from the hair line around the face down towards the end of the hair.

I brushed it down to the back of my neck as it would look like a hat (that’s how I see it hehe).

Keep adding the glitter to your desired effect… I say more the better!

#3 Hold it Together!

In between adding the glitter keep spraying the strong hairspray, as this will also help with sticking the glitter to the hair.

Once finished, add glitter hairspray softly throughout your hair,  even right to the ends.

#4 Pin it!

Just behind both ears, pin your hair with some bobby pins to hold your hair in place.

This just keeps the hair together and neat. Kind of that old Hollywood glam vamped up with glitter!

#5 Finish the look!

To complete the look with makeup. You can do a dark smokey-eye as that will complete a sexier and edgier look!

You will be the most sparkly woman at the club or parade!! Haha and you will be sure to turn those heads!!

And yes, I would love to see your created drench glitter hair looks, so take a photo and tag me! #bloggablingbeauty

5 affordable ways to keep your skin healthy and looking young!

Let’s face it, who wants to have wrinkles and dull skin?!?

The fantastic thing is, and it’s still very much a secret! YOU DON’T NEED TO SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON SKIN CARE PRODUCTS or get skins injections, when there are easier, less invasive and much more affordable ways to still have amazing skin!

Here is the secret! (Shhhhhh!!!! Don’t tell anyone!!!! ;)

Tip #1 Sun protection…
It’s important to always wear sun screen! Put it on daily! Especially on your face! (And anywhere else you want to put it hehe)..   as one of the main causes of wrinkles and brown spots, is.. you guessed it… THE SUN.

Wearing a foundation or a lotion which is classified SPF 15+ or higher, is also great to protect your skin.

Although you may not get that lovely tan, by reducing your daily sun exposure, sunscreen allows your skin time to heal and your immune system the chance to repair any existing damage.

Ladies, this is of primary importance!

Tip #2 Water in-take…
Drink water!!!!!! This is not only important for your skin but its also important for your whole body!

Drinking at least 8 glasses a day (yes, I said 8!!), will help get rid the body and skin of all the ugly toxins.

By increasing your water intake, your skin will have a more radiant glow (come on ladies, who doesn’t want that?!?!), it will feel more hydrated and much firmer and plumper.

Nothing will happen overnight, but a good couple of weeks of increasing your water intake should be enough for you to see how hydration affects the biggest organ on your whole body, your skin!

Tip #3 Keep your face clean…
It's important to wash your face twice daily to remove all those yukky impurities, dead skin cells, and any excess oil from the surface of your skin.

Washing even more often than twice daily may not even necessarily be better for it; it could even do more harm than good!

Use warm water, not too hot and a mild facial cleanser.

Using a harsh soap (like deodorant body soap) can hurt the already inflamed skin and can even lead to more irritation!

Always rinse well, and then dry your face with a clean towel (soft towels are even better :)

And here’s a handy tip ladies…. After drying, toss the used towel in the laundry hamper, not back on the towel rack as as dirty towels can spread bacteria!

Tip #4 Use a moisturiser….
I can’t say this one enough….. M O I S T U R I S E!!!!

Most people do not realise the importance of moisturising their skin daily!

Moisturise at least twice per day, morning and evening. No matter what your skin type, whether dry, oily or sensitive, you shouldn't skip your moisturising step in your daily skin care routine.

Leaving it out might quickly cause redness or flaking, and in time it can allow wrinkles and other signs of ageing to show up in your skin even earlier than they should have!

So prevent this ladies! Add moisture to your skin at least morning and night!

Tip #5 Beauty Sleep….
Can’t stress this one enough because I know we’re all busy! But…
GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP LADIES!!!!

The expression exists for a reason! Getting at least 7 hours of solid sleep per night can makes a huge difference in the appearance and health of your skin.

Lets get scientific, the stress hormone Cortisol, ages the skin and can also cause you acne. Your sleep will reduce the level of cortisol in your body.

So from science to maths! haha this leads us to a VERY simple equation:

Sleep = younger, clearer skin.

Now YOU know the secrets too!

In the Beginning

When I was a young girl at just 16 years old, I decided pretty quickly that conventional schooling just wasn’t for me and so I told my parents that I wanted to finish my schooling at the end of that school year.
And what a relief that was! My parents were wonderful about it and very supportive, agreeing to my request but only on the basis that I was to find a job pretty soon afterwards in order to start developing myself, or learn a course in a trade that I enjoyed.
It very quickly came to me that my absolute love for fashion and makeup was what I wanted to pursue!
I clearly remember, looking through my younger brother’s Star Wars book collection, only to admire the makeup design of each of the characters! And I would think to myself how amazing it would be to be a make-up artist on the set of a big budget film!! And I still do!
I even sought the guidance of my art teachers at my school before I had left, to see how they viewed my new direction and new choice of career, and they all completely agreed! So it was decided!
Now that I look back, maybe all those days at school when I was constantly being asked to leave the class and go to the school bathrooms to wash off my mascara and blush, oh and of course, remove all my nail polish, maybe that’s exactly what brought my attention to the beauty (and the value) of makeup!
Little did any of my teachers know at the time, that I was always still carrying my makeup in my bag with me so I could always just reapply it afterwards! Probably a good thing that I kept that little piece of information to myself.
I always knew that I wanted to grow to be a part of something unique, creative and glamorous. And until now, that has never changed.
So when the time was right, I enrolled into my initial makeup and beauty course which had a length of 6 months.
During that time, I applied for and was accepted into a Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship, in an established and successful Sydney salon.
This Apprenticeship was to go for no less than 4 interesting but intense years, where I learned the practical skills involved in everything from waxing, to tinting, to facials, manicures, pedicures and even massage! Oh and of course, my very main love, makeup!
Once I completed my Apprenticeship,  I successfully obtained a position within one of Australia’s most amazing day spas in the Whitsunday Islands! So I packed my bags and off I went in my little car, armed with skills I had gained from my time in my Apprenticeship, and a whole heap of excitement for my adventures ahead! And let me tell you, my time on the Islands and the experience I gained there, didn’t disappoint!
As time moved on, I continued to work for some of the leading brands in makeup and skincare within large department stores, David Jones and Myer.
My love for make-up and fashion and all things gorgeous has never ever faded.  I currently have many beauty and makeup consultations at night times and over the weekends and I find myself constantly being asked for makeup advice and skincare tips, which has recently had me thinking!!
“Why don’t I create a blog?!?”
So here I am!
And here YOU are too!
I know you will enjoy my little blogs in beauty, makeup, fashion (and even a little art and travel) as much as I have creating them!
I will also prepare a number of Vlogs on fun and interesting ‘How to….’ topics and I will post these on my YouTube channel (Link is on the side of this page).
Oh, and please don’t forget, I would love to hear from you too if you have special requests or any questions, so please contact me anytime through this page.
And by the way, you know I’m always up for a new and exciting challenge!
